Olly van der Breggen

Past Rycotewood Furniture college graduate Olly van der Breggen has been recognised as one of a new generation of designer-makers. His time at Rycotewood taught him not only the practical aspects of furniture making and traditional craftsmanship but also the theories and concepts of innovative design processes. His degree course helped him to develop a keen business sense and effective strategies of self promotion. He believes that success is determined as much by how well you promote your work as by the qualtiy of your work.

Olly has exhibited his furniture at various venues since completing his studies; these include 'Antiques for the Future' at Sotheby's in Bond Street, London; as well as the 'Furniture Show' at Birmingham's NEC, where he was awarded 'Best New Designer' by Living Etc magazine. Olly's furniture is a blend of traditional craftsmanship and innovative design. His intention is to combine simplicity and functionality, emphasising the perfection of the form with the beauty of the natural woodgrain. His furniture demonstrates his desire to use the very best materials, as well as his high level of craft skills.

He looks forward to furthering his career by gaining invaluable experience within the industry and develop the skills he learnt whilst undertaking the BA (Hons) Furniture course at Rycotewood College. Over the past few years Olly has been working closely with Modus Furniture Ltd, installing and helping to manage several large and small bespoke projects worldwide.
